Nico and Will were tasked on going to Auradon by Hades after having trouble using his powers in that world and a well needed vacation.
Hades walks in with blue hair and leather clothes, "You finally woke up" said Hades "How are you feeling".
"The FUCK are you wearing?!"
"IT WAS JUST A PHASE!"
....
In other words Nico is on the Isle, meets some people with actual fashion sense, and then goes to a Fancy Pants school where they all get turned into preps.

Summary
Chase wasn't born Chase Hollow, but that's the name he chose years later. It wasn't the first name he chose for himself either.
