His guards were erected so impossibly high that no one could hope to scale it and reach him, on the other side, but the fact that Philippe paused and waited was his compromise, when his agony choked him by the neck, cutting off all the words he needed to say, to ask to be saved from himself.
Corbeau was determined to do it anyway, whether Philippe begged him to do so or not.
Or: when a Rust Syndicate grunt nearly died on his watch, Philippe spiraled into an old habit that should have died long ago, in his abandoned past. The difference between then and now was that Philippe has Corbeau to catch him, before he fell deeper into his personal hell.

That same hand Philippe wrenched free slipped into his suit’s pocket, instead, and what came out were two blisters of headache and nausea medicine each. With a sharp inhale, Corbeau instantly recognized their packaging as his preferred brands as well, and maybe he was too far gone in his exhaustion, for the boss to start seeing things that were not there— like his oldest friend having an inkling that he was on the brink of fainting and buying his medicine on the way back to check up on him was equivalent to Philippe entrusting his heart to Corbeau.
Or: When Corbeau was at the brink of exhaustion after pulling several all-nighters in a short period, Philippe unexpectedly came to the rescue not just by offering his boss' preferred medicine in hand, but his heart, too.
