“Whatever bits of me were left didn’t expect it either. Or the lasers and the halo.” They laughed a little at that. Blixer, suddenly nervous, continued on. “It hurt, but nothing could be worse than being stuck as this thing for any longer. Gotta say, it was a bit of a relief that you were gonna blow me up. Shit, Cy, you looked like an angel, and there were worse ways to go than getting smited after everything I had done.”

Summary
"A prisoner of fate" is a statement that would best define Howard Lotor. Cursed with an eldritch affliction that was never going to leave him as long as he drew breath, never in his wildest dreams could he imagine that this monster would condemn him to rot in a void, after disobeying it and foiling its plans to take John Blacksad as its own.
Staking the last of his identity into an unlikely object, it falls into the hands of an imprisoned lone tiger past his prime, seeking to serve his time quietly as a fearsome reputation preceeded him. The fateful arrival of a young fox starts a series of strange events that will reluctantly have him assist in the fox's plans to escape, as the tiger becomes haunted by visions of a nameless, mangy raccoon in a trenchcoat, warning him of an imminent attempt on his life, forcing him to take action and get to the bottom of it all.
