    Summary

Agatha couldn’t move. It was her, she was sure of it—the dancer from the club, on the night of the last day of school. A stripper was standing in her classroom, addressing her second-graders. A stripper who, until this very moment, had been filed neatly into the category of things Agatha would never think about again. (Except that one time, when she got too drunk on the Fourth of July. And that other time, when she got too drunk on the Seventh of July, which was just a normal Tuesday.) And yet here she was, in practical jeans and a black tee, looking every inch like a competent professional.

Agatha had always been too old school for a curated social-feed folio. A binder on the table in the waiting room with her flash, new and old, and a few scattered Polaroid photos of her work. Walk-ins welcome, but often easily scared away.

    Summary

“For the record, even if I were straight—which, ugh—he still wouldn’t come close to being my type," Agatha quips.

Rio snorts, tipping forward as she laughs. Agatha feels Rio's hair graze her thighs, the urge to run her fingers through it wreaking havoc upon her train of thought. When Rio sits back up, she stays close, eyes roaming Agatha’s face—her gaze is piercing in spite of her intoxication. “What is your type, then?” she breathes, sinking her teeth into her bottom lip.

Agatha feels warmth spread throughout her body. The heated color is likely visible on her face, far more than the flush of alcohol ever was. Once again taken aback by the reaction Rio spurs in her. She’s a grown woman, for God’s sake. She can handle a little flirting without being set alight and left tongue-tied.

And this is just meaningless flirtation, she assures herself vehemently. Plain and simple.

Or, two strangers cross paths at a bachelorette party. Well, 'cross' is putting it lightly. More like the pavement was still wet, and now they're cemented together, footprints and all. A winding road if you've ever seen one.

Or or, 'And They Were Roommates': THE PREQUEL

    Summary

In the week since the bonfire incident (which she was absolutely not thinking about), she’d run into Rio approximately seventeen times.

    Not that she was counting.

There was Tuesday, when Agatha had taken Nicholas to his first surf lesson. Rio had been teaching the advanced class, wetsuit clinging to her like a second skin, and Agatha had absolutely not watched her demonstrate proper form on the beach.

(“Your coffee’s getting cold,” Wanda had said smugly.

    “Shit.”

    “And you’re drooling a little.”)

OR: Agatha has a mid-life crisis and bails for LA. That’s what people did, right? Terrible breakup, mid-life crisis, pack up your sixteen-year-old kid and move to California. Completely reasonable sequence of events.

Then start sleeping with the hot surfing instructor, royally fuck up keeping it casual, and try your damndest not to fall in love. Less reasonable sequence of events. But whatever.

“She won’t even admit that she’s gay for a New York City Ballet dancer. You think she would go for you, Rio Vidal of Cobb, Oklahoma?” Jenn raises an eyebrow, “IT service provider who plays Elden Ring in her spare time.”

“Maybe.” Chirps Rio. Hope does, after all, spring eternal.

    Or,

Rio goes from IT service monkey to fucking her very beautiful, very poised boss in a very short period of time. And then, of course, there’s the aftermath.
