Set some time during Tri98. Legato is on vacation so he's not there to stop Knives from hiring someone who doesn't quite fit into the universe. His methods of dealing with Vash are unorthodox, but is he a genius or just bored? Knives has no idea, he's too annoyed to care. As for Vash, Nick, and the girls, the actual focus of the story? Life is certainly going to be strange for a while.
