"Dude, I think I miss working as the Dispatcher..."
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
One minute, I was behind a desk, pushing papers. Next, I was thrown into chaos. I used to only read about it in incident reports. Somewhere along the way, I stopped being the background. Stopped being the civilian. Stopped being invisible.
Now, I'm the last resort. The one they call when luck runs dry. When heroes are gone, injured, or outmatched. When HQ has no one left to send.
They send me.
The Dispatch.
Even though it's a stupid name.

“He really trusts you,” I eventually said sympathetically, looking down at the exhausted boy.
Frank raised an eyebrow. “Course he does. He’s got no one else.”
“No, I mean… like, really. Like, you’re not exactly textbook safe.” I smirked. “You feed him frozen nuggets, swear like a pirate, and call him names most dads would get arrested for.”
Bobby sighed in his sleep, snuffling softly through his nose, bringing his hand up and over and plugging his thumb into his mouth. His other hand sort of clutched at my shirt as he took a deep breath, his eyes doing gentle twitches before he became still again.
“He still sucks his thumb? At ten?”
Frank shrugged. “Pretty much. Little homo's gotta have something stuffed in his mouth, I guess. Keeps him calm."
Fuckin Frank and his jokes. I glanced back down, Bobby’s thumb lazily in his mouth, his breathing slow and even, completely calm. I suppose having a dad like Frank wasn't without some unusual consequences, things he would have otherwise grown out of.

Summary
