“Sorry to bother you,” Chaeha ducked his head as he approached the taller man. “Could I have one of those? I’ll pay for it, if you want.”
The man turned his head, unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth precariously, and raised an eyebrow at him. “You want to buy a single cigarette?”
Chaeha closed his eyes briefly. “If it’s too much of a bother-”
The entire pack was dumped unceremoniously into his hand. He blinked down at it, and then looked back up at the man who was wearing a contemptuous expression as he flicked his lighter. “If you’re going to make it in this business, you need to be more assertive than that.”
“How do you know I’m even trying? I could just be a custodian. And I don’t want the whole pack-”
“Take it. Consider it an investment,” the man took a long drag of his cigarette, looking out over the city. “In exchange, I want you to do something for me.”
