“Liv,” he says warmly, and it is both professional and personal. “So this is the glamorous part of command.”
Olivia’s smile tightens. “The annual reminder that everyone looks better under dim lighting and budget champagne.”
Bell laughs. “She’s not wrong.”
Olivia gestures at Elliot’s tux. “Detective Stabler, I’m impressed. You clean up extremely well.”
Elliot smirks. “Yeah, well, Sergeant here made me try on fourteen jackets. She threatened to call Fashion Crimes on me if I walked in wearing the wrong cut.”
Ayanna lifts a brow. “Fourteen was generous. Twelve of them looked like you stole them off college freshmen. Your gym chest cannot fit into regular tuxedo.”__
They were fine. Really. Everything between them was steady, manageable, almost ordinary, until one night, the sound of their laughter tasted like the relief they had been waiting for. Elliot and Olivia decide that that laughter needed to be bottled.

"She knows that it’s not true, but sometimes a momentary darkness tries to sink its teeth into her. Sometimes, a dark voice that Olivia doesn’t recognize tries to tell her that this isn’t her place, that she’s taking something that doesn’t belong to her and that Kathy will always be Elliot’s wife.
