Summary
It begins with a fortune cookie left on Lan Wangji's pillow by his brother.
‘A life-changing event is on the horizon’, it says. Turning it over reveals no further explanation, only blank paper.
“How exciting!” Lan Xichen says. Lan Wangji thinks it sounds ominous.
Two weeks later, Jiang Wanyin transfers into his class and gets the seat next to Lan Wangji. Half a year after that, Lan Wangji finally admits to himself that he is in love.
If things had been allowed to continue as they were, lwj would've never risked his friendship with Jiang Cheng for anything. Luckily for him, the powers that be are out to change that.

Summary
It was the stupidest thing that he had ever done. But Jiang Wanyin blamed it on the alcohol that was buzzing under his skin and the fact that tomorrow was his 37th birthday, still fairly young for a cultivator but he felt every inch of the years in his body and mind (perhaps even more so). The night before his birthday, feeling tipsy drunk, he took out an amulet that he had confiscated from the nearby village because of the curse attached to it. The amulet was able to grant the person one wish, in exchange for something illegible. In the dimness of his room, heart-weary and drunk, Jiang Wanyin thoughtlessly cut his finger a bit to allow his blood to trickle onto the amulet.
