1880s. Delphine lives a slightly unconventional life in the Cantons de l'Est, having been taken in by her cousin's family after tragedy struck several years prior. She tries her best to be of service to other mothers, and their young children. But change is coming, the region is full of Americans and British Loyalists, as well as many anglophone immigrants. The francophones, however, are increasingly numerous - drawn to the area for work and for land. The arrival of an unexpected stranger will change her life in more ways than she can imagine.
