    Megumi opens his mouth, but no words come out. His voice sticks in his throat and chokes him. The silence stretches on; Nobara stops her tapping.

    "Megumi," she says slowly. "Then what happened?"

    "Itadori-sama," Megumi says, bowing deeper than he ever has in his entire life. Itadori is, after all, the oldest man on Earth; if anyone deserves respect, it's him. "I'm the sorcerer who'll be assisting you. My name is Sugisawa Megumi."

    He lifts his head in time to see something pass over Itadori's face—a shadow of some kind, an infinitesimal twitch of muscle. "Megumi," he repeats, his voice a low murmur, and Megumi's surprised at how familiar it sounds coming from Itadori's mouth. "Huh. What an old fashioned name."

     

    (Or: two hundred and sixty-six years after his death, Fushiguro Megumi is reborn. It takes a while before either he or Yuuji realise it.)

    His eyes land on a bright billboard up ahead, inviting people to watch a new movie releasing soon. More specifically, a movie coming out later in 2005.
    His heart begins to pound loudly in his ears. What the actual fuck?

    There’s no—No—That’s not how it works.
    This isn’t like that one shitty sci-fi movie where a kid time-travels thanks to some car and plutonium. He’s also pretty sure he didn’t walk into a blue telephone booth beforehand.
    So no, he agrees with himself. He’s just missing some vital piece of information in Okkotsu’s plan, that’s all.

    After all, what buffoon ends up 13 years in the past?

    Yuuji Itadori was fucked.

    Absolutely, supremely, inexplicably fucked.

    Genuinely, totally, super-duper fucked.

    Super fucked.

    Because standing in the very not-destroyed, dense streets of Shibuya, lined with the bright colors of department stores, hotels, tourist attractions, and advertisements plastered across every available space, Yuuji did not have Choso as support. He didn't have Fushiguro as support. He didn't even have Okkotsu as support.

    Yuuji was inconceivably, utmostly, wholly, not-awesomely fucked because he was in the year 2005.

    🔴 OR: Stuck over a decade in the past, Yuuji has resolved to do anything to ensure his future doesn't come to be.

    It would really be a lot easier if Geto Suguru wasn't so overbearing, if Gojo Satoru wasn't such an asshole, if Ieiri Shoko stopped instigating things, and if Yuuji were just a tiny bit smarter.

    But he was on his own, so damn it if he wasn't going to work with what he got.
