Summary
Nagi’s arm falls back around him and his hand grazes Reo’s back—for a second, Reo thinks it’s accidental, but then Nagi’s thumb slowly moves up and down, rubbing circles between his shoulder blades, and Reo is going to pass out.
He forces himself to close his eyes and to take a deep breath. It’s okay. It’s nothing. Just two slightly estranged best friends cuddling together in bed the night before Christmas because it’s cold and they’re snowed in.
Or: after the U-20 World Cup, after Side-B is over, Nagi and Reo have yet to reunite. Maybe an impromptu visit during a Christmas snowstorm will change something.

You’ve never really wanted anything, his father said. Reo’s mouth is agape.
Perhaps that’s true, for his chest has never burned and ached with this much want before, with a desire so scorching he almost rips the mic from the boy’s hand right here and now to ask for his name and steal him away—him, his tall figure, and his angelic voice.
I want him, Reo decides.
That’s the man who will make his dream come true.

“Because you never told me,” Nagi murmurs, pushing his head against Reo’s palm. “I wanna know more about Reo. That’s why… I thought knowing that would be good. I wanna know all of your secrets.”
“All of my secrets?” Reo huffs, half fond and half wistful. “You’re a greedy one, aren’t you?”
“I gave Reo my everything. You can give me a few secrets, can’t you?”
Or: Nagi doesn’t understand why his prince is so secretive with him, his personal knight.
Reo wonders how many more times he’s going to have to die.

Reo narrows his eyes at him like Nagi’s hit his head.
“You want us to practice for our show by acting in love when we’re home?”
Nagi blinks at him like his suggestion isn’t completely ridiculous. Worse, he looks like it’s perfectly normal, even exciting to some extent. Reo’s utterly confused.
“Yeah?”
Or: Nagi and Reo have been best friends for eight years, actors for five, and roommates for two. The first project they co-star in is a BL drama, which goes as well as you might expect.

“Why don’t you and Dazai work on a choreography together?”
“It’s a stupid idea,” Dazai whines. “Chibi could never keep up with me.”
Okay. Maybe Chuuya thinks that dancing together with Dazai is impossible, but what is even more impossible is ignoring this ridiculous taunt.
They met at fifteen, became a dance duo around six months later, and were the best in the world a year after. Falling apart wasn't in the plan, neither was falling in love.

“Get on with it,” he sighs, with more irritation seeping into his tone than he would have liked. Nagi slightly flinches. “You want my opinion on it or something? Why, is it for a girl?”
Nagi could have met one. During their previous break, for example. Or even after, because once NEL ended, the selected 23 players had to do a lot of meetings and interviews, be it in groups or alone, so Nagi could have totally met someone there. Reo’s been flirted with a lot during these moments too, after all, and Nagi’s popularity has skyrocketed since the end of NEL. It wouldn’t be a surprise. Reo’s the first one to acknowledge how attractive and interesting Nagi is; that’s part of why he’s his treasure, after all.
(Is he still, though?)
Or: Nagi buys a special gift for a special someone during Christmas. Reo misunderstands everything.

“You invited yourself,” Akutagawa reminds him.
Atsushi shrugs with a lazy smile. “You didn’t say no.”
Akutagawa unilaterally decided one day he hated Atsushi, and in response, Atsushi decided he was having none of that.
Or: From high school to college to the working world, love blossoms in the mundanities, and Akutagawa and Atsushi share a lot of them over the years.

Reo pauses again, then levels Nagi with a bewildered stare, as if not very sure he heard him clearly. He wets his lips, and Nagi blankly follows the gesture with unblinking eyes.
“Teach you what?”
“How to kiss.”
Or: Nagi is told that Reo must have kissed a lot of people before since he's so popular. For some reason, that doesn't sit well with him.

An orange cat floating in front of his window. Now that he thinks about it, the cat may have had blue eyes too. Yep… this is Chuuya, no doubt about it. Dazai sighs loudly and opens his curtains again.
“What are you doing here, Chuuya?” he flatly says as he finally opens his window.
Nakahara Chuuya gets turned into a cat and turns towards the only person he thinks can turn him back: his former partner, ability-nullifier, Dazai Osamu.
Or: Dazai nullifies abilities, not witchcraft. Chuuya learns it the hard way when he has to stay at Dazai's place in the form of a cat.

Fair. Dazai smiles melancholically. If not for Mio, perhaps he never would have made it indeed. Wanting to die and ending up nurturing life is a strange plot-twist, to say the least.
From messy lovers in their early twenties to strangers, Dazai and Chuuya meet again at twenty-eight.

Dazai inhales, and it sounds like a word almost falls past his lips—and Chuuya almost expects to hear a soft little ‘you’, but it obviously doesn’t come. Of course. Why would Dazai buy his music and listen to it? They were just fuckbuddies for a while. Why did he call him again?
Right. He’s down bad.
It’s 1982 and it will soon be three years since Chuuya last saw Dazai. They used to kiss and make love between cigarettes and vinyl records before their paths diverged. But they both still write songs about the other, and life has a funny way to make people reconnect.
Or: the jazz musician Dazai and rockstar Chuuya in the 80s AU where who’s the more whipped should be a competition at this point.
