Some part of Steve knows this is a dream. It’s that odd, off-center feeling, like he knows approximately what is real. Like looking at a picture and knowing someone was supposed to be standing in an empty space. He remembers the 1980 Hawkins Middle School Talent Show, but only vaguely.
After the fight with Vecna, Steve Harrington keeps listening to Eddie's Walkman. Keeps dreaming of Eddie. No mystique, he’s often said, which made Eddie quietly stress for weeks afterwards that he’s accidentally been giving away the twists in his campaign with unconcealed facial expressions. Beleaguered, he has no choice but to be fully and completely honest with Steve, which, he’s found in their lengthening interactions lately, Steve does not like.
“I thought it was funny how you very carefully calculated how long of a stride you’d need to take to avoid that puddle.” Eddie answers, and Steve’s brows predictably furrow, the way they always do when he regards Eddie.

Griffith’s hand moved almost of its own accord. His thumb traced the swell of Guts’ lower lip, then lifted itself to his own. He tasted bitter herbs and honey, a kiss at one remove. Guts didn’t move, not a twitch of a muscle or a flicker of an eyelid, and Griffith’s heart raced.
