Summary
This is a translation of The Black Book of Arda (first edition, 1995), one of the most influential texts of the post-soviet Tolkien fandom. Written in the 90's, it's a retelling of The Silmarillion from Melkor's point of view. Almost. Not quite.

It is known that evil came into the world through the efforts of Morgoth. But why did his efforts always result in evil rather than good? Why did the other Valar turn their backs on one who was beautiful and placed high in the sight of Eru? Here is one possible reason.

Summary
The unchaining of Melkor, in the Noontide of Valinor.
Melkor possessed power in each of the domains of the Ainur, but Nienna he held in especial contempt. Her gentle love for all Creation had only turned to her ultimate purpose of mourning and grief through the intercession of Melkor. She had entered the world to weep in Melkor's wake. That was her purpose.
She might have been his spouse, had he not been her enemy. The two of them together made up the cause and effect of loss.

Summary
. . . it seemed to Manwë that the evil of Melkor was cured. For Manwë was free from evil and could not comprehend it, and he knew that in the beginning, in the thought of Ilúvatar, Melkor had been even as he; and he saw not to the depths of Melkor’s heart, and did not perceive that all love had departed from him for ever. – The Silmarillion
In the aftermath of the Unchaining, Manwë is a loving brother, and Melkor doesn't exactly find that endearing.
