Because most people wouldn't even think that the end of the world could never happen. But in reality sometimes there is something much worse than the world ending...

    In this reality the world ending did not start with a bang; it didn't start with even a whisper. In this tale the world ended with the start of one singular scream. But it was this one scream that led to the cacophony of screams dying and decaying under Shigaraki's touch.

    AKA: Soulmate AU where Izuku has a quirk that lets him jump back in time and the scenarios that come with that. (Soulmates are not just romantic, they can also be paretnal, familial or platonic)

    So when All Might left him up here he took that as a sign from the universe. Clearly whatever powers there may be agreed that he should just end it all and give up.
