Summary
Aurla Riorson has been used as a bargaining chip her entire life.
As the daughter of the Duke of Tyrrendor, her hand in marriage was bargained away for loyalty, power, and alliance.
As the daughter of the Great Betrayer, her safety was held as leverage to control her brother, and in turn the rest of the children of the Apostasy.
Having survived her first year in the Rider's Quadrant, constantly compared to the brother who came before her, Aurla believes her time as the bargaining chip is complete. But when the youngest daughter of the General who most Marked One's deem responsible for the execution of their parents, crosses the parapet, Aurla realizes she's never going to be able to pull herself out of her brother's shadow, and will always be used to attempt to keep her brother in line, and loyal, to Navarre.

I died.
Or at least... I think I did.
One minute I was drowning at the bottom of a lake, the next I'm standing at the edge of Basgiath War College's infamous parapet, armed to the teeth and dressed like a dragon rider. In a world I only know from books.
This has to be a hallucination. My brain's final flicker before the lights go out. Right?
But the pain is real. The wind. The blood. The impossible heat of a dragon's breath across my skin. And when Xaden Riorson's bonded dragon starts paying attention to me-twice-I realize something is very, very wrong.
I've read Fourth Wing. I know what's supposed to happen. But with every step I take, canon bends, and I'm not sure if I'm here for a reason... or if I'm just the next to die.
All I know is: I've already lost everything. So what's stopping me from being bold?
Even if this is just a dying dream... I'm not going quietly.
