Summary
Harrow's favourite saint: Simeon Stylites. Ascetic, lived thirty-six years on top of a pillar, platform two metres square, ten metres up in the air.
They sent Simeon food up in baskets. Little baby Harrow always found that part fascinating – the idea that someone would lock themselves away and make themselves useless and do nothing but exist, and that despite that uselessness, that madness, the villagers would still come together two times a day and send baskets full of olives and bread up via some kind of elaborate pulley-system they had constructed.
She told her therapist once that that’s what love meant to her. The pulley system. The baskets.

Summary
Gideon froze on hands and knees as the gun dug into her stomach, just above her hip.
Beneath her, the woman sucked in rasping breaths made all the more difficult by the skull affixed overtop her face. Gideon could see the sharp lines of her chin, and the curve of her lower lip, and nothing else; the skull’s teeth and cheekbones obscured all other features, and the gaping sockets revealed darkness interrupted by only the briefest glimpse of the whites of the woman’s eyes.
Gideon bared her teeth, breath coming fast and tight.
“Now just why’n the hell you gotta go and-”
“Why do I have to–wait, hold on–”
“Yeah, why do you have to go sneaking up on me, damnfool y’are–”
“Wait–Griddle?”
The whites of those skull-socketed eyes grew wider. Gideon felt her stomach tighten, a welling of dread like the tickle of scorpion claws felt on the legs.
“... Ain’t no damn way.”

Summary
It was like watching a puppeteer pull all of Harrow’s strings simultaneously, Gideon thought; the little hagette stood straighter, though not taller- she was still five foot nothing, more furious purse dog than shaking purse dog- but she nodded firmly, once, before turning to Cam.
"Very well,” she said. “Marry me, Camilla.”
A vicious spit-take on Gideon’s part translated to one exceptionally high eyebrow in Cam, but nothing more.
“Like I said,” Cam began carefully, “I’m married to Dulcie, and unfortunately, polyamory is not recognized under the UCMJ. I can’t marry you without her losing her benefits.”
Then, because Cam was the absolute worst, she shrugged and said, offhandedly,
“Why don’t you marry Gideon?”- or -
Harrow needs health insurance, and Gideon needs Harrow (to not be a dick.) What better way to provide for them both than a little light fraud between frenemies?

Summary
She couldn’t stop thinking about Harrow. Gideon had been helpless under Harrow’s touch, had been completely undone by her in a way that Gideon had never been before.
“And here I thought I had some pride left,” Gideon said, and pressed the heels of her palms into her eyes until she saw stars. Was Gideon so horrifically down bad that she was just going to ignore the several thousand red flags that seemed to make up most of Harrow’s elemental composition?
Yes. The answer was a resounding yes. Gideon would not lie to herself. She knew that if Harrow called her right now and asked Gideon to strip naked and bark like a dog for her, she’d do it.Gideon and Harrow are coworkers with an already strained relationship. A misunderstanding sends them hurtling from more-than-coworkers, less-than-friends into the fiery depths of a tumultuous situationship. Camilla and Palamedes have one question as they watch the workplace drama unfold: how long will they be able to keep this up?
