In the millennial year of our lord--John the Dragonslayer, the undying monarch of Tier and High King of the Nine Forsworn Realms--eight knights converge upon Canaan Castle to represent their respective kingdoms in a tournament. Those who prove themselves worthy shall join the (diminished) ranks of the ageless Dragonslayer Knights. With them, their lieges shall ascend to the High King's court, where they shall have His Majesty's ear for all eternity. Or at least for as long as their knights survive.
Sir Gideon of Drearburh was raised to be a footsoldier, not a knight. She is, however, the closest thing to a knight that the Kingdom of Hadea can muster. Her liege, Princess Harrowhark, wishes to join the High King's court that she might seek aide for her people in their ongoing famine. Sir Gideon never wants to return to Hadea again. If Gideon places well in the games, both their needs shall be served. Unfortunately Sir Gideon can barely ride a horse.
Sir Naberius of Ida, in contrast, is a veteran of the tournament circuit. He is certain to place highly. Or, at least *he* thinks so. And he is quite happy to be forever 23.
Both Gideon and Naberius ought to know by now that magic always comes at a price.

Gideon would have held her breath and paused if by some miracle she managed to scrape together a do-over. Harrow probably would have, too, just to avoid having to say anything. Lapsed into a comfortable silence again with their fingers entwined the two of them could sit and stare and wait and wait and wait, witness their entire lives stretched elastic before them: St. Samael’s and the horror of the last week-and-a-half fading distantly into the horizon behind.
The stars currently floating above the elevator shaft were bright white and so sugary sweet they hurt Gideon’s teeth. No Southern Cross though— which sucked balls. She couldn’t really turn, either, to see if even a glimpse of it was visible from her second- (more likely third-) to-last resting place.
Okay, fine, pedantics: the place where Gideon Nav was most definitely going to die.

He stood by the door as they undressed, swiped away make-up, and eventually covered up in their plume-y robes and went to separate bedrooms. Naberius sighed, and rearranged himself before going first to Coronabeth's door to knock.
"Does the Crown Princess of Ida need anything?" he asked.
"My sister's head on a pike!"
He went to Ianthe's door. "Does the Second Princess of Ida require anything?"
"Oh, you fool. Knock once more, and I will use your entrails to hang that big-titted, curly-haired harlot!"
With his work done for the evening, Naberius went into his own room, leaving the sisters to figure it out for themselves.

Upon receiving their summons to visit the First House, Ianthe decided to allow herself an intentional heat. It was pragmatic, she said. It would stabilize her system, eliminate any risk of a breakthrough heat while they were on the First and couldn't afford the complication. But the truth of it was that there was a part of Ianthe that simply craved her twin. She'd never admit it aloud, of course. But she acknowledged, to herself, that she only made this choice because she wanted her Coronabeth. To pretend otherwise would have been as unwise a denial of fact as Mother's refusal to name Ianthe heir.
Or, as much as Ianthe hates being an omega, she can't help the way Coronabeth affects her. Pure smut, pure filth. Enjoy.
