Summary
“I learned tonight,” Silas speaks from across the room where he’s just downed the rest of his sparkling wine, “about an ancient Earth tradition. From a Fifth House historian.”
“Oh?” Colum asks, only half listening as he begins unbuttoning his pressed white shirt, somewhat wrinkled now from the night’s activities.
Silas sets the crystal flute down on the dresser. The glass taps softly against the lacquered wood.
“A New Year’s resolution. Deciding on some change on New Year’s Eve to live up to for the coming year. A lifestyle change, a goal to hit, getting yourself something difficult that you want.”
Colum gives him a grunt of acknowledgement, following him over to the dresser and opening the top drawer to find his nightshirt. Silas steps out of his way considerately. Colum finds what he’s looking for, shutting the drawer.
“I’ve made a resolution.”
Silas learns of an old Earth custom, and the age-old tradition of breaking it.

Summary
In the millennial year of our lord--John the Dragonslayer, the undying monarch of Tier and High King of the Nine Forsworn Realms--eight knights converge upon Canaan Castle to represent their respective kingdoms in a tournament. Those who prove themselves worthy shall join the (diminished) ranks of the ageless Dragonslayer Knights. With them, their lieges shall ascend to the High King's court, where they shall have His Majesty's ear for all eternity. Or at least for as long as their knights survive.
Sir Gideon of Drearburh was raised to be a footsoldier, not a knight. She is, however, the closest thing to a knight that the Kingdom of Hadea can muster. Her liege, Princess Harrowhark, wishes to join the High King's court that she might seek aide for her people in their ongoing famine. Sir Gideon never wants to return to Hadea again. If Gideon places well in the games, both their needs shall be served. Unfortunately Sir Gideon can barely ride a horse.
Sir Naberius of Ida, in contrast, is a veteran of the tournament circuit. He is certain to place highly. Or, at least *he* thinks so. And he is quite happy to be forever 23.
Both Gideon and Naberius ought to know by now that magic always comes at a price.

Summary
These few remaining Saints, of course, generally found themselves more than busy in combating threats to the Emperor in the furthest reaches of space, ripping great, nourishing blooms of thanergy wherever they went. They interacted with the Houses primarily through the Cohort and sporadic collaboration with the Order of the White Glass. Their few visits to the worlds they had constructed were rare, treasured occasions met with significant festivity. The subjects residing on their Houses met them with adoration rivalled only by their love for the Emperor.
Roughly one-half, at minimum, of the entire House of the Eighth’s adoration for its Lyctor, the Saint of Joy, emanated from its Master Templar, Silas Octakiseron.
Silas has admired the founding Lyctor of his House since childhood. At Canaan House, he has a dream.

Summary
Two years after narrowly surviving their experience at Canaan House, Colum and Silas must reckon with the consequences of the events that transpired there.
“Our bond was meant to be sacrosanct. It has been defiled by your lack of faith. This use I will make of your body is not for the indulgence of carnal desires. It is to mend the damage that has already been done. You are my cavalier, Colum Asht. I will teach you once more how to submit to me, and you will remember how to trust me as The Kindly Prince intended.”

Summary
“Colum.”
It looks at you, pretending attentiveness.
“It’s your fault this thing is here,” you say to it, though you’re not really speaking to the thing sitting in front of you. The man you’re speaking to is somewhere your voice may never reach again.
It does not respond. It never responds to you verbally.
If only your voice had reached him in your final moments, you wouldn’t be having this one-sided conversation with a thing that looks just like your nephew but has no mind of its own.
“It’s your fault,” you hiss at it, standing abruptly, your chair scraping noisily against the ancient wooden floor, and you’re no longer sure if your words are even directed at the man who is not really here, or at yourself.
It’s your fault he’s dead.
The thought haunts your every conscious moment, but you shove it down and redirect your blame to him because it’s easier, especially when he’s not here to give you that look he gets when he’s tired of you being obstinate or otherwise difficult but won’t voice it out of loyalty.
Silas is alone, except for this thing.

Summary
Unfortunately, his best attempt at subtlety is not enough, and after a soft, short gasp escapes him he hears the brush of hair upon pillow and turns his head to see Ram – still laying on his back, but head turned toward him and eyes no longer shut – watching him, a strange look on his face.
He expects Ram to turn away after a moment. Ignore him, go back to trying to fall asleep. His eldest brother just stares, though, and Colum is beginning to feel very self conscious about the way his hand is – very noticeably – moving beneath the covers.
“Don’t look,” he hisses, louder than he means to, and a moment later he hears bedclothes rustling followed by a quiet snickering from behind him.
“Don’t mind him, Colum,” Capris says from the third bed in their shared room. “Bet he hasn’t even realized what you’re doing. ‘M not sure he even knows how to jerk off.”
Colum used to wish he had the privacy of his own bedroom. After tonight, he's not sure he minds anymore.

Summary
Every single bag he consumes has a small amount of Colum’s blood mixed into it, but he’s only had a meal that was solely Colum twice; once on the day he was born – which he doesn’t remember at all, of course – and once before he’d siphoned him for the first time. He had been eleven years old, and it’s been a long, long, time since then, but what he remembers most about that day – more than swearing their oath, more than the soul siphoning itself – was just how exquisite that single bag of Colum’s blood had tasted with no one else polluting his essence.
Silas craves that taste again, desperately.
The Master Templar can consume only blood, due to Eighth House's age-old tradition of splicing their DNA with that of a vampire bat. This allows them a great advantage when it comes to soul siphoning due to the relationship between the soul and the blood, but it comes with some other effects – some more public knowledge than others.

Summary
“Colum.”
Your cavalier turns to you attentively from the doorway of the bathroom as he exits it – freshly showered and shaved, skin clean and damp – wrapped only in a towel.
“You are mine, are you not?”
He tilts his head at you a hair, brow furrowing, and he nods, standing there and waiting for whatever your next words might be.
“Body and soul?” you press.
He nods again, looking more confused. “Yes, Silas. Of course.”
You frown at him, allowing your eyes to flick down at the towel wrapped securely around his hips. “Then why do you hide from me parts of the body that I own?”
Your nephew stares back at you for a few moments, stunned. When he responds, it’s slow and deliberate. “Would you… have me not wear a towel?”
What's Colum's is Silas'.

Summary
The sanctuary is silent at this late hour, the stained glass windows set into the high ceiling and upper walls muted in their shine by the black sky beyond, and each one of your cavalier’s soft gasps and moans echoes gloriously through the silence in this open, holy space.
There are other noises echoing too, and most people would consider the act you commit here to be a desecration of this place, of your faith, of your position – but you believe otherwise.
To you, this is just another form of worship. The care and keeping of your cavalier, as the Tome instructs.
Silas and Colum have sex in the cathedral. Ram keeps watch.

Summary
You turn and approach the armchair, still on your hands and knees. You have some idea already of what he wants from you. He cups your cheek and jaw in his hand and you look up at him patiently as he strokes a delicate, bony thumb over your cheek gently.
“So obedient. You’ve always been so.” It’s true, for the most part. The way he says it – gazing down at you like he is – makes your stomach do flips and has the metal caging in your small excuse for a manhood get slightly tighter than usual.
The aftermath of the punishment Silas gives Colum for his inconsiderate actions.

Summary
They had become trapped in the stoma on their way, apparently, to traverse hells beyond the River, and now they were stuck just as badly as Silas and Colum. Discussions as to how to modify this state of affairs had stymied, and they all sat there in discomfited silence. Silas held tight to Colum’s arm, afflicted by a vague paranoia that he might somehow vanish now that other souls had been introduced to the equation.
Her Divine Highness Kiriona Gaia, Heir to the Emperor Divine, said calmly, “We could try boofing it.”
