Thought I could keep everyone happy, even at the cost of my own soul.” His voice catches, his eyes damp. “And guess what? It did nothing for my marriage, and it sure as hell did nothing for Olivia.”
    Nick doesn’t need to say it, but he does anyway. “You love her.”
    Elliot exhales sharply, shaking his head, something close to amusement flickering across his expression. “I’m not saying it first to you.”

     

    Or: Elliot makes different decisions in the past, just in time to be exactly the person Olivia needs during the worst time of her life.

Along with the added complication of a temporary partner for Olivia, who happens to be attractive.
