They’re so far away now, as her whole world narrows to the excruciating agony buried so close to her heart that Melissa wonders if it would have been better to die from the impact. Maybe then her heart wouldn’t hurt so much. Maybe if the arrow had pierced right through, Melissa wouldn’t be replaying every meaningful interaction she’s ever had in her mind just to pull her focus from the pain.
