Afterward, Bucky would look back on their first meeting with fondness and a healthy dose of amusement. At the time, though, he’d mostly been confused - and more than a little embarrassed.
Bucky hadn’t paid much attention to the media in his early days, and hadn’t bothered really reading up on the team or anything, either, so when Steve had said ‘Tony Stark’, Bucky had just assumed.
The same way he’d looked at the three people who’d walked through the door - an imposing redhead in heels, a bored-looking brunette who dimpled when she saw him and Steve, and a sturdy-looking man wearing a slight glower - locked eyes on the man, and assumed him to be the infamous Tony Stark Steve wouldn’t shut up about.
It was Bucky’s first lesson when it came to Natasha Antonia ‘Toni’ Stark - never assume.

“Forgive me, Captain," FRIDAY said. "I needed a moment to be certain I hadn’t erred, but based on my facial recognition systems, I can safely say that Mr. Barnes and Mr. Wilson have located Tony.”
“What the fuck?” Bucky rose to his feet.
The kid tried to run, but Sam caught the rugrat and restrained him.
“Let me go!” The kid struggled. “My dad isn’t going to pay any ransom. You’re just wasting your time.”
Ransom? Facial recognition?
Bucky stared at the kid—really looked at his face.
Amber eyes, oval face, olive skin, strong but narrow chin, a slightly larger than normal forehead, and a nose somewhere between small and medium in size.
“Oh, fuck. Tony?”
The tears were back in Tony’s eyes. “Fuck you, you assholes!” He wiggled one arm free and punched Sam in the kneecap.

Steve decides that he wants to try a relationship with Bucky because he always kind of loved him and Alpha/Alpha relationships are okay now, so why not try? He breaks his bond with Tony. Bucky is appalled because that just wasn't done, and he wasn't interested in Steve. 2/2 Back then, omegas who had their bonds broken because their mate died in the war were cared for by the Alpha’s family.
