Quiet was never a believer in that - or any superstition in fact, but it would appear that this particular one was correct. As she stumbles through the Afghan desert, agony, caused by the parasite in her throat awakening, ravaging her body, memories appear – products of the brain that is desperately searching for any way to escape the searing pain.

All she saw was red.
The red that was painted on her skin, the sink; the blade.
To Ruby, it had seemed like such a morbid color—a constant reminder of what had brought her here in the first place. The hurt, the sorrow; misery. But, at the same time, it felt so beautiful. It felt like a relief; the sudden release of a suffocating pressure in her chest.
All the same, it felt like such a heavy burden.
