    Shadow learned Sonic's routes. His favorite diner booth. The way his laughter filtered through his favorite cafe windows. The exact hour he ran past the lake. He cloaked it in "protection," called it duty, but duty didn't make his claws itch when another alpha got too close. Duty didn't make him dream about pressing Sonic against a wall just to breathe him in.
