Shadow reaches the last page and feels his stomach sink like a stone. The flat, lifeless black-and-white version of Sonic and Prower's old Eggman Industries ID photos stare up at him. If that wasn't already enough to make him dread Tower's next words, the glossy trade magazine cutout clipped to the page that proclaims in no uncertain terms that Super Sonic Security will be attending the ID&S Exposition for the second year in a row definitely is.
"You'll be going undercover as Sonic's partner—"
"No."
or, Going undercover as his ex's boyfriend would be a lot less complicated if Shadow was actually over him at all.

Summary
Even after years of fighting and coming to terms with their rivalry, Sonic and Shadow still have issues seeing eye-to-eye about certain things. However, after seeking advice from Shadow, Sonic is no longer ashamed of his identity as an omega. His respect for Shadow grows after the hybrid opens up about his own experiences, and in a sporadic whim of boldness, asks the alpha to start a no-strings-attached arrangement to benefit them both. Well... as per usual... things never go as planned and the two find themselves having much more in common than they originally thought.
Author's note: I've read a lot of fics where Sonic's whole thing is trying to hide the fact he's an omega - Love these fics - I just wanted to turn that idea upside down on it's head. So, instead, he's become proud of his identity and starts trying to explore and learn more about himself and how it's okay to be vulnerable. Same goes for Shadow.
