Summary
Having Alex in his flat is inarguably a bloody terrible idea, but the man is, inexplicably, his soulmate - he can feel it - and he couldn’t very well stay at that dreadful bar a moment longer. So they got the bottle of wine to go, Henry left a sizeable tip, and led Alex back here because it’s close and despite every instinct to the contrary, there are some things he needs to say.
The entire issue is, Alex is the most gorgeous person Henry has seen in possibly all his life, and as much as this is never going to work, Henry would very much like it to for just the night, if nothing more.
He saw the way Alex’s nostrils had flared when they walked in. Henry is nearly certain Alex won’t smell anything here. Henry isn’t an omega. His possessions don’t carry his scent. Hardly anything does anymore.

Henry Fox has given up on love. He has no desire to be in a relationship, and he doesn't miss it at all, except the times his house is so quiet the wind outside seems to echo. Or when he sits down to eat dinner in silence aside from David’s whimpering at his feet. Maybe when he crawls in a king-sized bed at night, with only a beagle to take up the rest of the space. But that's fine, all of it, he is more than capable of being by himself- in the vast emptiness that was a rural Texas night. He doesn't need anyone, certainly not Alex Claremont-Diaz and his insistence that he knows how to keep hookups casual.

“Excuse me?”
“I fucked up and now I’m going to look like a fucking psychopath if you don’t walk back with me to that booth covered in flowers and tell the very nice lady that we are on our honeymoon.”
Alex loves free shit. These are the lengths he's willing to go to in order to get them.

Henry can’t help it—he lets out a laugh and shakes his head. Beta Sigma Chi being a safe space is about as likely as the Republicans championing queer rights. “Right, and who’s this new president that somehow managed to turn around an entire fraternity?”
Pez winces. She hesitates at first, but then she must decide on something because her chin juts out. “Well,” she says slowly. “It’s Alexander Claremont-Diaz.”
Henry laughs so hard he almost falls off his seat.
Or, Henry Fox learns to fall in love with everything that is Alexander Claremont-Diaz, even if he insists on calling Henry "dude".

“How about this,” Alex says, smug and overconfident, “for every awful date you have where they leave you high and dry, I’ll finish the job.”
Henry’s face, smushed into the bend of his arm, stays alarmingly still.
“Excuse me.”
The beer bottle on Alex’s stomach begins to wobble, and Alex only narrowly catches it before it dumps over on his chest. He rolls over and leans on one of his arms.
“I mean. That’s what friends are for, right?”
Silence stretches over the living room, Henry’s face hovering above him from the couch. Alex stares at the rug until he can’t avoid Henry’s gaze anymore, then blinks up at him slowly.
“Right,” Henry echoes eventually.
