The footsteps, which Gillion had overlooked before, abruptly stopped and Gillion froze.
A voice called out. “Hello?”
“Jay, what are you doing?” A second voice.
“I think there’s someone out there…” The footsteps - presumably belonging to these two people - started again and increased in pace. To Gillion’s dismay they seemed to be getting louder and he scrambled to stand again, legs shaking slightly.
Two humans pushed through the flora, coming into full view.

Chip frowned and prepared to turn away in the opposite direction - he wasn’t really up for toying with the market guards today and just wanted to enjoy the agreeable morning. Let bygones be bygones for the day.
Unfortunately, it seemed that Jim shared no such pleasantries, and Chip’s frown turned to a sigh as the larger man started striding through the crowd towards him, catching him by the shoulder.
Chip looked up at the guard with disinterest.

And as the steel pierced his back he screamed.
And the water erupted in a divine display of crepitate moonlight that burned with the anger of a goddess against those who had dared harm her Chosen.

Now, Gillion was not known for being particularly smart, nor was he known for having a great constitution, so as he took this bottle after having watched two experienced drinkers struggle to down it, the only obvious thing to do was to try himself.
If he had taken a moment's pause Gill might have noticed the overbearing smell and pulled away in disgust, complaining about the truly evil scent, but he didn't.
Very big mistake.

Any direction that wasn’t the right one seemed dull and grey. The form of whoever had spoken sticking out like a sore thumb in the emptiness. He recognised them from somewhere, a ping at the back of his mind cutting through the haze.
