Not when Arthur is in so plainly in love with this Mary woman. The confession could ruin their friendship. Or maybe not...

     

    “You’re leaving?”
    Takes a moment for Charles to look up from fiddling needlessly with Taima’s reins. To face Arthur. And speak. “Yeah.”
    “You can’t.”
    “Arthur.” He says it with a sigh. “You knew I was gonna leave eventually.”
    “But I—” I need you, he almost says. “I thought you was taking me with you.”
    Charles looks at him so fondly. “I can’t—"
    “Was you gonna say goodbye at least?” Arthur knows he sounds more wounded than angry. And he supposes he is.
