Will dropped his head into his hands. “Mike, oh my god—”
Paladin Mike’s jaw tightened. “I do not own him,” he said immediately. “He is—” He stopped, swallowing. His eyes went back to Will softening, and that softness made Mike hate him even more. He could recognize the look, and saw it mirrored in his own eyes countless times.

“He is the Light. By your oath, I am bound to him. My liege.” He bowed his head slightly toward Will, his mouth wrapped around the word like it was a prayer. “My cleric.” He said after, softer.
“Oh my god.” Will flushed, impossibly. “That is crazy. He is actually crazy."
Max, who had been standing with her arms crossed behind them, muttered, “Jesus Christ,” under her breath.
Mike Wheeler is going to explode, because there is an alternate, armoured version of him, following Will Byers around like he belonged to him.

“It doesn’t matter if it takes a hundred more crawls,” Mike says, planting his hands against the table. “A thousand! We don’t stop until we’re goddamn sure that wrinkled, rotting, noseless bastard is dead and gone and never coming back.”
Will’s smiling, now, looking reassured. And Mike’s saying it for El’s sake, but also Will’s. Max’s. Eddie’s, too. Everyone who’s been hurt by this monster, who won’t be able to sleep at night with even the slimmest chance that he might still be out there.
He has to do something. And until there’s a better plan, or more information to go off of, this is the only option.
He puts his hand out above the table. “Everyone in?”
Lucas, looking determined, slaps his palm on top of Mike’s. Then Will. Then, when there’s only one of them left, they turn to look at Dustin.
Dustin’s mouth twitches to the side. His torn Hellfire shirt ripples in the late-autumn breeze. “I want to see Vecna’s heart on a platter,” he says. His voice is low, almost scarily detached. Like he has nothing left to lose. “Just wish I could do it myself.”

Will looks up with surprise. “Why?” he asks.
Nancy just gives a tight smile, but in her eyes, something deeper brews. “You keep my secret, and I’ll keep yours,” she responds.
Will doesn’t really understand much about Nancy Wheeler at all. But Will’s happy to be her secret keeper, so he nods.
OR,
At the end of the world, makeshift living arrangements push the unexpected together, and a new Byers-Wheeler alliance forms.

“We—“ Dustin started, but Mike rudely cut him off. “You didn’t come to school today, Will, we were worried something happened”.
Will smiled again, “I'm okay guys, really.”
He shared a look with his mom, "I just…couldn’t come today, something came up."
Will was lying, obviously he was. Mike saw the way he blinked through the entire confession, eyes darting every which way, a dead give away he's picked up along the years.
OR
As the three boys wait at the bike rack for their party to be complete, they came to realize their fourth member would not be joining. Mike’s brain is quick to supply a rush of worry, convinced something bad may’ve happened to his best friend
Eventually after a full day with no show, Mike and the other three hurriedly bike to the Byers residence after school.

Summary
For Will Byers, summer had always been a season of shadows and memories he’d rather forget.
The last thing he expected was for the quiet of his drawing sessions to be interrupted by Richie Tozier, a boy with oversized glasses and a mouth that never seemed to shut. But beneath the bad jokes and the restless energy, Will finds someone who, just like him, is running from his own ghosts.
Slowly, Richie becomes the noise Will needs to drown out his fears, and Will becomes the safe harbor where Richie can finally stop performing.
