he pulls up to the curb in front of jimin’s apartment, lets the engine idle. glances over and looks at him. he can’t really help himself.
jimin is already looking back. it’s soft, the look, something that echoes the i-miss-you in jungkook’s chest right now. a knife, a sharp tip against his skin. it hurts. they are so close and so far away.
“goodnight,” jungkook says.
jimin’s eyes flash, in the dim streetlights. it’s dark, half his face is dipped in shadow. the sharp line of his jaw softened. he’s still pretty. jungkook swallows hard.
“goodnight,” jimin echoes, softer.
(or; jimin leaves jungkook behind in busan. four years later, jungkook moves to seoul after him.)

jeon jungkook shares a wall with apartment 3A. with a pianist he's been playing quiet midnight duets with for over a year, now. someone who plays him to sleep, plays him through lonely nights. 3A is a comfort.
jeon jungkook meets the Most Beautiful Man In The World in the building's laundry room, and spends an hour talking to him while he waits for his clothes. the Most Beautiful Man In The World smiles pretty at him, tells him goodnight, and leaves jungkook enamored.
little does he know, they're the same person.
