    “Admiral, please. You have to let me see him. He’s…” Wedge stops, bites the inside of his mouth hard enough to taste blood. He’s everything. He’s the best friend Wedge has ever had and the thought of him alone in Alliance custody after whatever horrors he’d experienced on the Lusankya makes Wedge’s chest go tight and strangled. He’s lost so much－ his parents, Biggs, Jek, Garven, more friends than he can count－ he refuses to lose Tycho, too.

    But even if he had the words for it, there’s no category for what Tycho is to him, no checkbox he can mark that would force Alliance Security to make an exception. Except－ “He’s my husband.”

    The Admiral’s mouth gapes silently. Wedge honestly wasn’t sure which one of them was more surprised.

    “Forgive me, Commander,” Ackbar manages after a long moment. “I was not aware.”

    Neither was I, Wedge thinks hysterically.
