Finally, Eyes squinted across the room at Walter Beckett. “Okay. We need to talk about this.”
Walter looked up from his tablet, confused. “Talk about what?”
They exchanged looks—the kind where nobody wants to be the one to say it first.
“You,” Ears said. “You’re… like… twelve?”
A beat.
Walter blinked. “I’m not twelve.”
Lance immediately snorted into his drink. “Yeah, he’s not twelve. He’s like… thirteen and a half.”
“Lance.”
“I’m joking!” Lance threw his hands up, but didn’t help his case at all.
Still, nobody relaxed. Because Walter did look young—soft features, bright eyes, the kind of harmless energy that made people assume he had homework due tomorrow instead of government clearance.
Walter sighed. Patient, used to this. “I’m in my twenties.”
Silence.
Then chaos.

Summary
The thing Lance never said out loud was that Walter Beckett had completely ruined him.
Not in a bad way. In the worst possible way.Because before Walter, Lance had standards. Control. A sense of dignity he at least pretended to maintain. Now it was seven in the morning, and he was standing in the kitchen watching his boyfriend struggle to reach a cereal box on the top shelf, thinking it was—annoyingly—adorable.
Walter Beckett. Genius scientist, world-saving inventor, walking disaster for cabinet safety, currently standing on his toes and making offended little noises at an inanimate cupboard.
And Lance was just… watching him again.
“You’re doing it.”
Walter didn’t turn around. “Doing what?”
“Staring.”
“I wasn’t staring.”
A pause.
“You absolutely were.”

First, it was the clone of himself appearing from thin air, next he was being dragged into a portal with said clone.
Oh, and said clone also wants to share parents.
He didn’t have his father and Miles didn’t have an Uncle Aaron. Maybe tragedy followed the Davis brothers through every universe but, Christ, Miles G wished it didn’t show through their sons and nephews. He wondered if Miles had a mural of Uncle Aaron on the wall of his apartment roof and balked when he found himself looking for similarities again.

The last words Hobie said echoed in Miles’ mind like words shouted on a mountain, growing quieter and quieter as the sound bounced from rock to rock and slowly stopped. His head was crushed on his pillow as he laid on his back, fresh cuts on his stomach searing in pain. Every time he took a deep pain stabbed through his chest like someone was stabbing him.
Well, probably. Miles thought to himself, holding back a painful chuckle as he stared at his ceiling. Because I was stabbed.
