Summary
Galinda Upland is painfully familiar with the exact mathematical proportions of perfection. Her secretary, Miss Elphaba Thropp, is not perfect. She cuts a rather imposing silhouette, thundering imperiously down the halls of the Upper Upland Boutique headquarters.
That silhouette has only grown more imposing now that she is with child.
or, in other words: galinda is the chief executive and lead creative of her family's fashion line. elphaba is her egregiously expectant and consummately professional secretary.

Summary
The memories of the Melting wouldn’t leave her, and neither did the grief. Glinda tried everything she could to fall asleep: switching rooms, rubbing lavender lotion on her hands, even drinking a foul tasting concoction that one of her handmaidens swore would put her to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow (it didn’t). And even when she did manage to fall asleep sometime just before dawn, Elphaba’s screams jarred her awake.
So one night Glinda found herself sitting at the desk in her study with a blank sheet of paper in front of her. Dear Elphaba, she wrote, and then watched the words waver at the top of the page. She crossed them out and started over. Dearest Elphaba . It was ridiculous. Elphaba would never read her words again. But she found that they came anyway, faster than she could commit them to paper.
Or: Glinda begins writing letters to Elphaba in the aftermath of the Melting. When she pushes herself beyond the point of exhaustion four years later, Chistery decides to take matters into his own hands and deliver the letters to Elphaba in an attempt to save Glinda's life.

“Have there been any times it’s not been like this?” Lifting her arm, Galinda squinted at the bright reappearance of light, tinted blue but gradually returning to its true warm hues. “When your pheromones have been... overly apparent?”
A beat of silence followed, and when Elphie did speak, her voice hung on her first word for a noticeable second or two, “Well, I suppose with heats but –”
“Then that is how we do it!” Galinda declared, bolting upright. Elphaba was on the edge of her bed now, hands pressed to the mattress as if poised to stand. She jolted as if caught. “If that is when it’s most prominent –”
“I don’t believe it works like that.”
“– then that will be when you are best able to practice!” Galinda spoke with her hands, a giddy bounce to her movements. “Yes, yes, this is positively the absolute best of ways, I just know it! Oh, I am so pleased I can help you, Elphie!”

Or: Galinda plans to help Elphaba learn to use her pheromones as she does, when this fails, she believes waiting until Elphie's heat is the answer. Needlessly to say, the outcome really shouldn't have been a surprise to her.
