Summary
“I don't know what's going on with us Ilya." Shane sighed he felt like he was going to start crying.
Ilya looked at Shane. “It feels like we're arguing all the time and half the time I don't even know why and the other half it's just you being mad at me.”
“Can we please just talk about this when we get back from practice.”
“You never wanna talk, you're just gonna leave after practice to go somewhere and then come back whenever you feel like and then come home just to yell at me when I'm concerned but sure we'll talk later.” Shane grabbed his keys and hockey stuff.
“You know what, I think I'm going to stay at my parents for a while until you're ready to tell me whatever is going on with you.”

Summary
Following their reunion at the All-Stars Game in Tampa, Shane can't help but throw a smile back at Ilya on the ice at their next match-up, despite all his reservations and the voice in the back of his mind telling him it was too risky. If only Shane had been more careful, because then he wouldn't be in the hospital and Ilya wouldn't be thinking about the day he found his mother dead. Throughout the night and the next morning, Ilya is consumed by flashbacks to that day and all the what-ifs of Shane's injury: What if Shane never moves? What if Shane never wakes up? What if Shane suffers the same fate as Ilya's mother? What if Ilya has to suffer another loss so soon? What if Ilya has to go through that grief all over again?
Or: Seeing Shane injured on the ice triggers Ilya's PTSD from finding his mother after she took her life. Ilya dissociates the rest of the night, hounded by PTSD flashbacks of his mother's death.
