Summary
Buck is a believer. Despite his upbringing, Buck never fails to see the good in other people even when he most definitely shouldn’t. He shines with love, gives it freely to anyone and anything he stumbles upon. It was no different with Eddie and his son. He’s like a beacon of light.
And Eddie needs this light like sailors need their lighthouse to guide them to safety. To guide them back home. Lately though, the light seemed to start flickering. If the light goes out, everything will fall into darkness, including the light holder. And since Buck has done so much for him, so much for Christopher, he vows to give Buck anything he asks the universe for, even if he has to do so from the sidelines. He might not believe in the universe but he will do everything he can to maintain its good reputation for Buck.
Because the universe isn’t as kind as it appears but Eddie can make sure that for Buck, the universe is the most beautiful, powerful machine, leading him to everything he deserves.
or : Buck starts to doubt his capabilities to love and be loved. Eddie won't have any of it.

Summary
Eddie was raised a gentleman.
Buck was raised with the notion that he wasn’t worth any effort.
Do those two things correlate to each other? Unfortunately for Eddie, as time goes on, it seems they do more and more.
Because Eddie is in love with Buck, and Buck thinks that he is impossible to love.
