Caitlyn’s eyes widened a fraction farther, and she could not contain her whispered, “No” as her stomach dropped to her toes and her chest constricted like she had just been thrown from her horse.
“Three days hence, you will marry the eldest child of the Hound of the Underground, and your union will fully secure the peace between our two nations.”

The woman from the club—the one she’s fantasized about for over a month—stands before Caitlyn, panting and bent over, clutching to her side in obvious agony. Sweat beads at her temple and drips down her angular cheek, where strands of pink stick to her skin. It’s chilly outside, and yet she’s feverish, more than likely from the stab wound and other knicks she might have obtained from the battle laid waste behind them.
They’re silent, staring at each other, as Caitlyn watches. Can’t find it within her to speak, even if the pressure against her throat is quite tight. She just stares, feeling something ache within her at the visceral mistrust and anger that dances within those steel depths.
“Small world,” She hears the woman say. Her voice is raspy, deep despite her smaller height, and there’s a challenge within them, like she thinks Caitlyn is going to try and fight her, “Seeing you here, cupcake.”

Caitlyn stared back at her, ears burning, at the absolutely absurd request. No one, no one on this green earth, could make the infamous disaster that was Powder’s sister dateable. It was absolutely ridiculous to think anyone would want to date the girl who insisted her birth name was Violence no matter how anyone prettied her up. It was a doomed project and she should say as much.

“I don’t know how you’re so strong at times, Violet.” Caitlyn says her words softly, kindly, and Vi would have wondered who exactly she was talking to if her own name hadn’t been attached to the sentence. She blinks and curls a curious brow at the woman next to her, wanting to laugh at the absurdity of such a statement, but she doesn’t. Not with the way Caitlyn’s looking at her.
“…me?” She asks instead, unsure of what to really say here, not sure what Caitlyn’s meaning.
Caitlyn sighs softly and lowers her gaze, where she looks analytically at the sand though her mind is obviously miles away. “You’ve been through so much. Continue to go through so much, and yet here you are. Sitting on the beach with me and talking about your past like it isn’t…what it is.”

Day 3: Flowers
“I promise you. I promise I’ll come back.”
He promises, George thinks wistfully. He promises such a thing- to offer George with his word on something, to uphold it. It’s as if he’s saying that he’ll give the world to him, just for him. But somewhere is the lingering thought in George's mind is that he won't come back. That the cruel war that had riddled their land will take him too, and he will be left aching and worry-worn. George shivers at the thought. Of a life without him.
“You promise?"
That you’ll come home to me?
And as if he heard those unspoken words. Dream beams at him.
“I promise. You won’t even notice that I was gone, my love.”
George lets out a wet and broken laugh at the overly romantic pet name that he associates with his beloved. Dream does so too, before pulling him back into his embrace.
They stay there for a bit. The war can wait.
“I promise I’ll be waiting.”
