“I can swear an oath,” Fandral offered. “Several. Poetically.”
Loki’s amusement softened into approval. “You did very well,” he said. Then, to Thor: “He could watch.”Fandral had spent centuries watching Thor and Loki circle each other. He learned a lot—too much, actually. But he valued his life, and never thought to label such things.
When Loki ascended the throne and Thor returned changed, old patterns resurfaced. Loki somehow made himself reachable again—but Fandral knew better. When the jokes stopped being harmless, he realised, heart pounding and far too entertained, that survival came with rewards:
