Summary
The water burns, but Riko does not adjust the temperature. She lets it sear her skin as she rubs her limbs raw, trying to wash away the blood and the dirt and the memories. She imagines everything shriveling in the heat, like fire stripping away her outer shell until she is left with only the skeleton of herself. She imagines this is the way to heal, to find whatever still lives inside of her.
There must be something, right?
She didn’t go through with the merger; she is still Amanai Riko. But…she isn’t sure she even knows what that means anymore.
(Or maybe she never knew.)
riko survives, at the cost of geto's life. tsukumo helps her see that her life has meaning beyond being a star plasma vessel.
