“We found a guardian bell on the bottom of your bike. Based on the wreckage, I’d say you’re pretty lucky to have walked away. You ought to come and get your bell.”
“Guardian bell?”
“Yeah,” the auto-shop employee paused, “the bell? You know.”
Sarah didn’t know.
“I…I didn’t have a bell on my bike,” Sarah said.
“Well.” the employee paused, “we found one and I’d say it’s the best damn guardian bell ever. Sure did its job.”
A thirty something Sarah Williams, totals her motorcycle near a historic covered bridge one spring afternoon following a violent and unnatural storm. After the accident, she finds herself connected to a small town and its disturbing history of vanished women. Summary
Shenanigans ensue when one middle finger to the Academy too many gets Starfleet Cadet James T. Kirk booted off planet for a summer internship aboard the V.S.S. Sh'Raan.
He's hiding a major secret from the oh so earnest and helpful Vulcans, but the longer he's on the ship, the more Jim starts to wonder if they're keeping secrets from him, too.
---
Captain Spisee handed Jim a heavy sheet of rich, cream paper embossed with gold dusted Vulcan calligraphy bearing the ship’s name. It was a bit cheap by the standards of Vulcan stationary aesthetics, but shipboard life meant some sacrifices. In the most elegant handwriting he’d ever had the privilege to lay eyes on, it read:

Summary
Despite being a genius with an IQ of 187 Spencer left most of her life up to chance. To decide what courses she'd study she taped all of her choices onto a globe and threw darts at it. Sometimes to push herself out of her comfort zone she'd stand at the main corkboard and close her eyes before grabbing a flyer. One time her favorite bookstore was closed so she went to a different one.
They are small things but they have impacted her life in so many ways.
She now has doctorates in Chemistry, Engineering, and Mathematics. She's completed her FBI training and she's studying for her BA’s Psychology, Sociology, and Philosophy.
She knows that dogs don't generally like her, babies don't care if you read duck-duck-goose or quote your Chemistry notes at them and that they are super messy, and she's now a fully qualified foster parent.
And that bookstore? That's where she met David Rossi, who pretended that wasn't him until he got called out for it and bought her dinner to keep talking to her.
She's fine with chance if she has time to prepare for it, but sometimes chance comes in the form of looking identical to four victims of a serial killer on your first day.
