Summary
Shadow staggered to his feet; Sonic caught him at the shoulder before he fell over. “Hey,” Sonic murmured, “I meant it, you know. About being your friend.”
“I meant it too. You don’t know what you’re asking for.”
A different message than just a straight no, Shadow realized too late. He observed the sharp perk of Sonic’s ears while the grip that shifted to his bicep gave a squeeze. “Tell me. Tell me what I’m not getting.” A cough had Sonic wipe his mouth with the back of his glove. “I want to learn what it takes to be your friend.”

It started with the chao. Then, strange energy signatures. It was easy work; the everyday run-of-the-mill adventure leading him to an island called the Verdant Maw. Sonic’s friends would make space for him, always- but when he isn’t around, they’re still living their lives without him. He’s starting to feel the impact.
At least he can count on Shadow to stay the same.
The pair of hedgehogs work together to solve a new threat, learn just how far family extended beyond the ARK, and ask what it means to be a friend.

Summary
“Why don’t you run me through tonight’s plans?” Sylus says as he helps you into the car. “Since you’re my assistant now.”
“Arrival in fifteen, shake hands, and get an invite to cocktail party at eight,” you go down the list on your fingers after you buckle yourself in. “Mingle until we’re either invited to a backroom or someone can give us a name. And then we kick their asses.”
Sylus chuckles. He keeps his eyes on the road as he drives, shifting gear with one hand, the other lazily on the steering wheel. It’s effortlessly hot, and it annoys you a great deal. “There might be a few steps in between intelligence gathering and ass-kicking, but you got the gist of it. You are?”
“Your overworked assistant,” you say.
“Overworked?” Sylus asks, amused. “I don’t remember this being part of the script.”
“I’m simply trying to portray my role as realistically as possible.”
You moonlight as Sylus’ assistant. Things go a little differently than planned.

Summary
He's is in the water before he can even process the need to dive after Sonic. While the hybrid’s eyes have better darkvision than a regular hedgehog, the burn of saltwater as he scans for Sonic is starting to make the effort seem futile before he’s even really begun. Shadow starts to spiral downward, his heart sinking as fast as he is in the dark waters, the strong current, the crashing waves above him.
No. He can’t be gone already, can he? Did he really do all of this to fail? Failure wasn’t an option. It isn’t an option. He closes his eyes to ground himself. When suddenly, the space around him lacks the crushing pressure of the ocean. The cold of the water.
When he opens his eyes, he’s standing in the surf shop again.
