Abruptly, her eyes sting. It’s exactly the kind of thing they used to say when he’d helped her at The Wreck, working side by side and shit-talking all the Kooks who came in. Her teeth click together as she beats it back, turning her chin up at him. “You can be on your way now.”
“You look lost,” he says instead, amusement dancing with his words.
“Well, looks are deceiving,” she snaps, cursing the anger that rises in her chest, cursing that ever-present ability he has to get a rise out of her.
“Are they?” She avoids looking at his grin, harsh as it is, it still dimples his cheek the same way it had when they were kids.
She stands her ground. “Yes.”
“That’s good.” JJ nods, victory clear in his tone. “Cause right now it looks like you don’t got anywhere to go.”
OR- JJ catches a Hitchhiking Kiara on the edge of Charleston and decides to give her a ride
