Summary
After gifting Shadow his den so he has somewhere safe to stay while on the run, Sonic promises to keep Shadow’s fugitive identity and their growing friendship a secret in order to protect him.
Meanwhile, the Wachowski's under strict orders from G.U.N. to report any sightings of Shadow's whereabouts, and are clueless to Sonic’s escapades with their enemy. But, his plan to keep both sides of his life separate were dashed when Tails found out about Shadow and Sonic's relationship by himself, and now it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the family catch on, too.
Sonic is caught between his loyalty to Shadow and his duty to protect the family who saved him. He’s faced with the decision to betray Shadow's trust by revealing that his secret is compromised and lose what they have forever, or jeopardise Tom and Maddie’s safety by staying silent and intentionally deceiving G.U.N., risking everything they've built.
All Sonic has to do is maintain the balance without tipping the scales over the other, which shouldn't be an issue so long as he can keep his (probably, maybe, definitely romantic) feelings for Shadow under wraps.

“Who is…that?”
Rouge glanced up from her phone, fingers poised to finish the text; she paused for a moment, before sending it off. At the chime, her gaze drew to his, intrigued, perhaps by his sudden interest in anything that wasn’t the coffee between them.
She followed his line of sight, and immediately her expression melted into a knowing smirk.
“That,” she teased, “is Sonic Parlouzer, an old flame of mine. Don’t waste your breath on him, hon. He’s a heartbreaker, that one. And a runner. No one’s ever gotten close enough to capture him. No one.”

If his boyfriend was planning on sex tonight, he would have to wait until Shadow got to the end of this chapter. Sex was good, but he'd prefer not to lose his place. The azure hedgehog never complained, sometimes he even pleasured him while he waited for him to finish reading.
Except there were no sweet, almost teasing, kisses to his stomach or hand brushing along his sides. Instead, something hard pressed into his stomach before a sound broke through the quiet of the room and something wet met the fur of his stomach.
Lifting his book up, Shadow just barely caught sight of his boyfriend's mouth closing around a glob of white mush on his stomach. With his mouth falling open, he asked, "Did you seriously just put whipped cream on my stomach?"
Before he responded, the hero placed the whipped cream can back against his stomach and swirled it around, topping the black fur like a banana split. The dark hedgehog had to fight back a gag. "I read it in a magazine," Sonic began to explain, licking at the mountain of cream. "It listed the top five ways to keep things interesting in the bedroom. This was number three."
