“I have a proposition,” said Malfoy importantly. Harry opened his mouth. “Don’t speak,” she snapped. “Father wants me to use the ball as a chance to make connections with powerful international wizards.”
Harry had no idea where this was going.
“He seems to think that I’ll struggle to meet wizards of…” Her nose crinkled distastefully. “Adequate importance, unless I’m able to sit at the champions table. So I’ve decided to offer you an opportunity.”
Harry blinked at her. He waited five seconds, then ten, but when it became clear that no further explanation was forthcoming, Harry rolled his eyes.
“And that opportunity is…?” he prompted, unimpressed. He noticed idly that Malfoy’s hands were shaking. She stuffed them in her robes.
“I’ll allow you to take me as your date to the Yule Ball.”
Desperate to attend the Yule Ball as the date of a champion to make connections, Malfoy offers Harry a proposal: she’ll stop being cruel to his friends if he agrees. However, they find themselves enjoying each other’s company more than anybody would have expected.

Summary
In a bid to end the First Wizarding War, Albus Dumbledore arranges a secret, magically binding marriage pact between the ancient and noble magical houses of Malfoy and Potter. When they come of age, the child of Lily and James shall marry the child of Lucius and Narcissa.
