Summary
She's insufferable, Astarion thinks. She asks too much of him, expects too much of him. It's like she expects the world to change just because she's in it, because she demands it so. That the cosmic scales of good and evil shift with every swing of her hammer, raising the count of innocents and diminishing the number of villains. As if that weren't enough, she spends far too much time listening to people talk and trying to make good choices, and they could have been to Moonrise by now if not for her moralistic dawdling. It's foolish, naive, and if nothing else, exhausting.
And yet. Sometimes, in the right light, in the space where his heart no longer beats, he feels safe with her.
Astarion might be more scared of that than anything they've fought so far.

Meanwhile, the Captain of the city grapples with her unhappy citizens, despite giving them everything she thinks they deserve. She must have their obedience, whatever the cost.
