Summary
Will's breath catches in his throat as he looks out over the lake, the red and blue lights from the police cruisers reflecting off the water.
An arm, small and frail, hangs limp, pale finger tips dipping into the frigid water as it swings from the force of being moved.
There, in the middle of the group of men all dressed in rescue gear, a little figure lies on a gurney, lifeless and unmoving.
The child's face slowly registers in Will's mind. Hair blotted across the forehead, sticking from the water. Long eyelashes over pale cheeks. A mole above blue, cracked lips.
His favorite jacket on his shoulders.
The realization settles in his stomach, forboding and sickening.
It.. It’s…
“It’s Will. It’s really Will.”

Something has gone awry in the universe, and it must be set right. -

Summary
“I mean, honestly, don't you feel a little overwhelmed with it sometimes, Will? He's your paladin in DND, yeah, we get it, but at some point it's a bit... We all got pretty protective of you after the upside down, wanted to do things for you, of course, but.."
Dustin tries to find the words.
"It's like he just...never turned it off, like he's convinced the moment he looks away, pays attention to anything else, you're gonna vanish,”----------------
Will has never thought his and Mike's, admittedly, unique friendship was a bad thing, not until a debate between the party about Mike's inclination towards him has him second guessing the entirety of their friendship. With evidence that Mike has been neglecting his sister in favor of doting on his every need, Will makes it his mission to fix the relationship between Mike and El by stepping aside and no longer accepting the care Mike tries to give him, encouraging him to pay attention to El instead.
Mike is, decidedly, not a fan.
Faced with the idea of losing Will, he takes things into his own hands.
