“I thought you were asleep,” he said.
“I’m not.” Athos was sitting in the alcove under the window, with his back to the wall and his elbows resting on his bent knees. He had taken off his doublet to use it as a makeshift seat. His cloak hung over the window, and the lit candle stub sat on the floor between his legs. He watched Aramis as he approached slowly, and the candlelight painted dancing shadows on his face and throat.

Summary
Athos asks Aramis to a concert, at first Aramis is confused that he hasn't asked the others but shrugs it off. Athos then invites him out riding and takes him to a poetry reading. Aramis assumes Athos just wants company and the others aren't interested. Athos even treats him to gifts and fine clothes so he can go to these fancy events.
Aramis starts enjoying these moments alone with their normally aloof Athos, pleased that Athos is finally allowing himself to live now that Milady is out of his life. However, as Porthos soon points out, if Aramis was a woman then what Athos was doing would be considered courting.
