A quirk of their family. A genetic anomaly passed down by blood.
Wings showing your personality and your parents' opinion of you.
It took Bruce adopting three kids for him to realize that the Waynes' gift had no regard for blood at all.Or: A series of one-shots centering around Batman and his Robins with the slight twist that they all have wings.
Or or: The obligatory flower symbolism fic, but birds. In the Batman universe.(Stephanie Brown not included)
Also, yes, Damian Wayne is there too. I just didn't know how to fit him into the summary.
