"I require a preliminary psychological debrief regarding your current emotional equilibrium," Wednesday stated, her voice flat and strictly professional.
Enid finally blinked, turning her head slightly. The silence broke, and the corners of the blonde's mouth twitched upward into a weak, exhausted smile. It was barely there, but it was a smile nonetheless.
"Are you trying to ask me how I am?" Enid asked softly.
"I am asking for a preliminary psychological debrief," Wednesday corrected without missing a beat, refusing to break eye contact or admit to the translation.
Enid let out a small, breathless chuckle that lacked its usual brightness. She turned her gaze back to the dark street below, her smile fading as quickly as it had appeared. "You'll think it's stupid."
"I find ninety-eight percent of human interaction to be stupid and tedious," Wednesday countered. "Try me."

Summary

Now twenty-eight, Enid has finally built something stable for herself and her nine-year-old daughter, Tetarti: a teaching job, a safe little Pennsylvania town, and a surprisingly affordable house across from the supposedly eccentric old woman who lives at Whisperwood House. Teta, naturally, befriends the creepy neighbor almost immediately.
There is only one problem.
The reclusive writer at Whisperwood isn’t an old woman.
She’s Wednesday.
Neither Wednesday nor Enid has truly moved on from what happened between them, and neither is prepared for what happens when ten years of secrets, hurt, love, and one very stubborn little girl put them back in each other’s lives.
