“Do I,” Will starts, haltingly, eyes darting back and forth between Mike’s own like he’s already searching for the answer, “make you nervous?”
Mike exhales, his shaky breath too loud in the space between them. It’s hard enough to sort through his own feelings where Will is concerned; it’s another thing entirely to attempt to explain them to Will himself. He looks at Will’s face, the planes of it softened in the darkness, and tries to draw forth the answer closest to the jumbled mass of the truth. “Yes,” is what he lands on, followed by, “maybe. I don’t know.”in which will visits mike at college and mike has an agenda that yields... mixed results

It looks as if he took kiddie scissors to his bangs and, in a fit of passion, chopped them up, unevenly and out of order, with no semblance of any decision making or fashion sense other than ‘I am going to end you, my pointy, triangular fringe. Mark this day as your last!’.

Summary
The invisible shoulder nudges him, and Mike wishes he'd taken the piece of paper to read what Will would've actually said, and then misses, more generally, Will's voice. His spoken word. Which is unfair - Mike's lucky he gets even this much, the cool brush on his arm, the creaks of his weight on the floorboards, the gentle drum of his fingers. Reminders. Will, inasmuch as he can be, is here, even if it will never feel like enough.
Sometimes — he never tells anyone this — he shuts his eyes, tells himself that Will is alive, and sitting there, next to him, and the moment he tilted his head, they'd be face to face.
He doesn't like opening his eyes, after that.
Will is a ghost. Mike is haunted.
