And when his head tilts up, Mike knows it’s Will. His eyebrows are scrunched together, but his eyes are wide and swirling with confusion and sympathy, shining with fresh tears. He moves his hands up as if to guard himself, and Mike notices they’re shaking violently.
Mike’s heart nearly falters to a stop. “Will?”
As Will’s eyes study Mike, they grow more confused and upset. “Mike?”
Relief floods Mike’s chest. It’s so overwhelming that he almost forgets there’s a full-scale battle waging below them, though the dogs seem to have grown restless and confused without their master. He can’t get his hand to unstick from the sword, but he stumbles forward, his other arm reaching out. “It’s you?”
